Earlier today I was in the office of one of the partners with a question. It was a conflict question. As an attorney, I have to be careful not to end up in situations of conflict of interest. Yes, we attorneys do care about that sort of thing, though you wouldn't know it the way some folks carry on. But I digress.
While I was in Partner One's office, Senior Attorney walked in and we discussed my issue and came to a resolution. As we were finishing up, Partner Two came in and listened in on the end of that conversation. Then the Partner Two said, "Since I have the brain trust here, I have a conflict question I want to run by you." I was all, great, that's my cue to leave, and I stood up to go.
Partner One said, "Where are you going?" and I responded, "Partner Two said 'braintrust' so ..." Partner One, bless him, said "You have a brain, sit down." So I did. Naturally, they discussed the conflict issue without any input from me because, frankly, they sooooo had it covered. I did learn something, by the way.
Then Senior Attorney had an issue to run by us, and by "us," I mean, them because I had no clue what he was talking about. I sat down again, and tried to look smart.
Through all these exchanges, I don't think I used my brain much at all.
