A couple of days ago, a baseball game scheduled to be played in Denver, CO, was cancelled due to weather. The "weather" referred to was 17F degree temperatures. 17F degrees is -8C, for anyone who uses the more logical metric system. So it appears that global warming does have its minor setbacks: I think we can anticipate the Maldive Islands being underwater by the end of the century, after which the water will freeze, perfectly preserving the islands for future generations, sort of like a modern day Atlantis.
The cold spell's effect on the So Cal area is that we have temperatures in the 60'sF (15C-20C) instead of the 80'sF (25C-30C). Not exactly the same as Denver's frigid temperatures, but enough for me to wear an undershirt, a cotton knit sweater, a scarf (specifically, my Gryffindor scarf, NOT USC), and my fleece coat. If this is a harbinger of the winter to come, that $30 leather coat I bought from my neighbor will come in quite handy.
It occurs to me, of course, that when I move to Boulder, CO, I shall have to make a significant investment in winter apparel. I might also have the surgery to have the weather-wimp gene removed.
